Workshop

Gledališče Glej
and Maska (in the frame of Seminar of Contemporary Performing Arts) are organizing an intensive performer workshop based on the training of Odin Teatret’s Torgeir Wethal and Roberta Carerri: Beyond Stanislavsky’s method of physical Actions and constructing the actor’s Score, under leadership of Dr. Seth Baumrin.
Subpoetics is a training technique that allows actors to build and employ three scores simultaneously in any performance situation—physical score, vocal score, and subscore. The purpose is to create and perform three texts that run simultaneously within each actor: The text you tell the audience with your voice; the text you tell the audience with your body; and the text you tell yourself with your self. Throughout the workshop the participants shall continuously explore ways in which to internalize, externalize, shrink, and expand the texts, to overlap them in group performance and isolate them in solo performance.

Dr. Seth Baumrin has worked in Higher Education and professional theatre in New York for overtwenty years. His unique area of research focuses on the cross pollenization of espionage and the performing arts in Eastern Europe. He has also worked in Developmental Education throughout CUNY and at various student focused Learning Centers in Manhattan. Professor Baumrin's pedagogical mission focuses on John Jay student's succesful navigation of their degree paths fromfreshman year to graduation including strategies for gettiing off probation, test taking, short and longterm research projects, academic reading and writing, and critical thinking for undergraduates.
