In 1999, the MKC Maribor published the book Spectralisation of Technology: from Elsewhere to Cyberfeminism and Back, edited by Marina Gržinić in cooperation with Adele Eisenstein. The book contains texts by Sollfrank, Oldenburg, Reiche, Huffman, Ursprung, Jahrmann and Gržinić. It sprung up as part of broader activities and projects of the Computer Arts Festival, organized each year by MKC Maribor.
In the year 2000, MKC continues this important publishing activity in cooperation with a co-publisher, the performing arts magazine Maska, and with the editor and researcher Marina Gržinić (Institute of Philosophy ZRC SAZU, Ljubljana, Institution for Artistic Video, Ljubljana, Central and Eastern Europe Fund of Mama Cash, Amsterdam, KulturKontakt, Wienna) within the Computer Arts Festival 2000.
The design of this year’s book also focuses on female activities in the field of media, art and theory. The book brings different strategies, designed by women, active in the field of media and art, as well as textual and interpretative works on different subjects, from female authors.
This year’s book project brings discussions on artistic, activist and theoretical strategies in connection with the body and different aspects of the body as a political and visual paradigm in the world of art, media and theory. It brings strategies and survival, activity, behavior, mentality tactics, represented and articulated by women; these strategies have in most cases been marginalized until now. The aspect of strategic and tactical mentality has been excluded from artistic and media activities for a long time, especially when represented by female artists and theoreticians. In most cases, it was caught in the structures of pure narration. As an opposite, the present activities of women in the field of art, media and theory are deeply connected to strategy; a concept, a matrix can be traced in the foundations of most activities.
