You probably know those movies or stories about THE END OF THE WORLD. Everybody is gone, nobody is left. How do you tell the story afterwards? How do you make the movie afterwards? When everybody is gone, who will be the one to talk? How will she or he talk? Who will they tell the story to? In “The Task of the Translator, ”Walter Benjamin writes about "an unforgettable life of the moment even if all men had forgotten it." In our workshop, we will explore this dimension of the work afterwards, the role of memory and story after everything has been done, when nobody has been left. If the nature of such a life or moment requires that it be unforgotten, then this predicate does not imply a falsehood, but merely a claim not fulfilled by man and probably also a reference to a realm in which it is fulfilled: God's remembrance. Here, a question whether historiography does not constitute the common ground of all forms of the epic arises. The workshop will deal with our memories and the potential of the history or reality as such. We will discover the unknown potential of our memory as well as the imagination and construction of everyday life. With Hooman Sharifi, the participants will practice dramaturgy, in written and experimental theatre form, they will enter the world of writing a story and the complex procedure of staging a story in theatre form.

The workshop is suitable for dancers, choreographers, dramaturges and theoreticians since it deals, in various ways, with the role of artistic, private and cultural biography in contemporary dance.

Hooman Sharifi (Iran, 1973)
Born and raised in Iran, now a Norwegian citizen. Came solitarily to Norway in 1989, at the age 15. His experience in dance started with hip-hop and street-jazz. Later, at the age of 21, came technical training in classical ballet and modern dance. In 1997, he was accepted to a 3-year course in choreography at the National College of Ballet and Dance in Oslo, from which he graduated in spring 2000. He has always had interest in the “cross-work” of dance and theatre and, after graduating, he worked in dramatic as well as visual art. In 2000, he established Impure Company. The statement “art equals politics”, where “social awareness and commitment” define the word politics, marks the outset for Impure Company and signifies what art is and should be.

The price of attending the workshop is EUR 40. You can apply until 15 December 2008 or until the workshop is filled, by sending your application to jasmina.zaloznik@maska.si
